Yesterday we made the shorter journey to Cambridge United via Histon!!
We made our usual stop at Peterborough before we went to the Red Lion in Histon.
We left for Cambridge about 2pm and the traffic was busy, parking was hard to find as well so we had a distance to walk. When we got near the ground we were told we had to go down a walkway to the away end.
When we got in the stewards seemed friendly and our flag went up before it got too busy.
The game started and town lined up with a more 4-5-1 formation and it was working well! We were shooting towards our stand and we played some good football. Half way through the 1st half Dominic Vose made a pin point cross for James Berrett to score his 1st goal for Grimsby Town, the fans went mad!! Later in the half Omar Bogle (yes Omar Bogle NOT Ashley Chambers Channel 5!) had a great free kick hit the bar. The half ended with Grimsby Town well on top.
The 2nd half started with Town fans singing ‘Paul Hurst’s Black and White Army’ non stop for over 20 minutes, it was ace!! Even the stewards were humming and tapping their feet along to it.
We didn’t have it all our way this half, which you would expect with Cambridge being at home and on a better run. We didn’t feel nervous like we did at Exeter that they might score though, maybe because the fans sang all of the time and they helped the players?
Our only real chance of the half went to Omar who was alert to a bad back pass to be 1 on 1 with the keeper only for a defender to come out of nowhere to stop home scoring!!
To make sure that we were solid super captain Craig Disley came on to finally make his 600th career appearance. Not an easy thing to achieve but well deserved to a GTFC legend!
The whistle went and it was a job well done for the players and the fans. Each and every player came over to us and applauded, Josh Gowling was buzzing but then he always spends the time applauding everybody home and away. Even Paul Hurst and Chris Doig did fist pumps. It made us feel like we had really helped them get those 3 points which Josh sort of said on Radio Humberside.
